Cyprus is also a land of controversial nature where the history of two peoples is intertwined. The island is divided in two: in the south the Democratic Republic of Cyprus, in the north the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. In the south people speak Greek and pay in euros, in the north the language is Turkish and the currency is the Turkish lira.
